EA Sports FC 27 is set to launch on September 25, 2026, and it’s shaping up to be the biggest shift the series has made since the FIFA-to-FC rebrand. Between a new social hub, a full defending overhaul, and meaningful changes to both Ultimate Team and Career Mode, this is more than a roster update. Here’s everything confirmed so far, based on the official gameplay trailers and the closed beta that ran from August 5 to August 25, 2026.
FC 27 Release Date and Platforms
EA Sports FC 27 releases worldwide on September 25, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. Players who buy the Ultimate or Ultimate Plus Edition get Early Access starting September 18, a full week before the standard launch. EA Play members also get a limited-time trial ahead of release.
The Standard Edition cover features Kylian Mbappé, while the Ultimate Plus Edition cover pairs him with Jude Bellingham.
The Grounds: FC 27’s New Social Hub
The headline addition in FC 27 is The Grounds, described by EA as a social football playground where street football meets the stadium. Players take a personalized character through a living hub, join Kickabouts and Clubs, and compete against friends or other players online. EA has also added “mentors” who guide players through The Grounds, including cover star Mbappé and Alex Hunter, the fictional protagonist from FIFA’s old Journey mode.
It’s the clearest sign yet that EA wants FC 27 to feel like a persistent, connected space rather than a menu you pass through between matches.
Gameplay Changes: Defending Overhaul and More
FC 27’s gameplay trailer confirmed one of the most requested changes in years: auto-defending has been removed. EA says the retuned defending system hands players more direct control over tackles, positioning, and pressing, instead of relying on AI-assisted contain mechanics. Alongside that, the trailer previewed new attacking approaches, reworked corner-kick routines, and more responsive off-balance dribbling.
If the beta feedback holds up at launch, this could be the biggest on-pitch shift since the switch to the FC branding.
FC 27 Editions and Pricing
FC 27 comes in three editions:
The Standard Edition is priced at $69.99. The Ultimate Edition runs $99.99 and adds an extra Ultimate Team Evolution slot for competitive squad building. The Ultimate Plus Edition costs $149.99 and bundles three Legend or Hero players, a five-star coach, a five-star youth scout, a five-star senior scout, and five additional manager live-challenge creation slots for Career Mode. Note that the Ultimate Plus Edition is only available for pre-order until August 31, 2026, after which it’s pulled from storefronts entirely.
Ultimate Team and Career Mode Changes
Ultimate Team gets a refreshed collection experience alongside the new Evolution slot in the Ultimate Edition. Career Mode sees some of its deepest changes in years, with the added Legend/Hero players, upgraded scouting staff, and expanded manager challenge creation giving long-time Career Mode players a lot more to work with from day one.
Should You Pre-Order FC 27?
This is a preview based on EA’s official trailers and the closed beta, not a final verdict — we’ll publish a full review once FC 27 is out on September 25. That said, the removal of auto-defending alone makes this one of the more interesting FC releases in years for players who’ve been asking for more manual control. If Career Mode or Ultimate Team are your main modes, the scope of changes here looks like more than a yearly refresh.
For competitive Ultimate Team players specifically, the extra Evolution slot in the Ultimate Edition is likely worth the upgrade over Standard. Casual and single-player-focused fans may be fine waiting for launch reviews before deciding between Standard and Ultimate.
