Creative Assembly is bringing Total War: Shogun 2 back on October 13 as a Complete Edition, and the first question most people have is whether their older PC can still handle it. The short answer is yes for most setups. The game is a 2011 classic with a modern engine pass, so the Shogun 2 Complete Edition system requirements are modest by 2026 standards. The one thing that may surprise you is the 70 GB install size.
Minimum Shogun 2 Complete Edition System Requirements
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit
- CPU: Intel Core i3-8100
- RAM: 8 GB
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB
- DirectX: Version 11
- Storage: 70 GB available space
The Steam page says this tier targets High settings at 1080p and 30 FPS, or Medium settings without SSAO and SSR at 1440p and 30 FPS.

Recommended Requirements
- OS: Windows 11 64-bit
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
- RAM: 16 GB
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super
- DirectX: Version 11
- Storage: 70 GB available space
- Network: Broadband internet connection
This tier is listed for Medium settings at 1080p and 60 FPS, or High at 1080p and 30 FPS.
What to Expect at Each Tier
On the minimum spec, a GTX 1060 and a quad-core i3 will get you a playable campaign at 30 FPS. That is fine for a turn-based campaign map, but large land battles with thousands of units on screen are where a 30 FPS cap can feel sluggish. If you play at 1440p on this hardware, expect to turn off screen-space ambient occlusion and reflections.
The recommended spec is more comfortable. An RTX 2070 Super with 16 GB of RAM should hold 60 FPS at Medium in 1080p. Note that the developer’s own numbers do not promise 60 FPS at High, so if you want maximum settings at a high refresh rate, plan on a newer card than the one listed. The 4K and ultrawide support is there, but Creative Assembly has not published a 4K target, so treat that as something to test yourself.

Storage is the real catch. 70 GB is a lot for a game this old, and an SSD is the sensible place for it, since large battles load a lot of unit and terrain data.
Release Date, Platforms and Price
Total War: Shogun 2 Complete Edition releases on October 13, 2026 for Windows PC. It costs $39.99, and owners of the original game get 75% off until November 12. The package includes the base game, Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai, and the DLC released since 2011, with the exception of the Blood Pack. New additions include improved lighting, shadows and textures, 1440p and 4K UI scaling, over 50 newly playable minor factions, and mod support through Mod.io.
One downside worth knowing: mods made for the original game will not work in the Complete Edition. If you rely on a specific mod, keep the original installed. The game is listed on Steam, and the other storefronts have been announced as well.
